MCF Selection - The selected ones
After the smoke had cleared, the Women squad have been determined with WFM Nur Najiha Azman Hisham leading the pack with 6.5 points, followed by 6 pointers NWM Tan Li Ting, Camilia Johari and Najiha's older sister, WFM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham.
It was a nail biting finish as there were 4 games that can make or break the selection with the organizer bracing for a possible 6 way ties. Although the SB tie break used may not yield too many players with similar points, still a 6 way tie just showed how intense the showdown was. A draw or a lost by Nabila in her last game against Sarika Subramaniam would have paved the way for WNM Fong Mi Yen to fill up the last spot in the squad.
For the Men's selection, Sumant's lost to NM Lim Zhuo Ren opened up a possibility for a playoff if former NM Kamalariffin Wahiduddin is able to beat Fong Yit Ho in the last round, and beat him he did. Sumant's needed just a draw to secure his spot in the squad and Lim spoiled the party for him.
The 3 players that have secured their places in the National squad are IM Mas Hafizulhelmi, IM Jimmy Liew Chee Meng and IM Lim Yee Weng.
Currently, NM Kamalariffin and Sumant Subramaniam are facing one another for the right to earn the final spot in the national team.
