A Thematic Chess event is a tournament where players start their game based on a certain theoretical position decided by the organizer. A thematic event may offer a single or several theoretical starting position for the players to play with and for the FGM Thematic chess event, the theme for the event is the Ruy Lopez Opening.

This is indeed an interesting event and will definitely help players to hone their understanding and depth of the opening, and provide avenues for players to try certain interesting lines and novelties.

The First GM Chess Academy event will be held at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus, #1, Jalan Taylors, Subang Jaya.

Event starts at 9:00am on Saturday, 23rd April with a short talk on competitor analysis and the first round has been scheduled to start at 10:00am. There are 5 rounds scheduled for the first day and another 5 rounds schedule on the second day, 24th April with the last round expected to complete by 6:30pm

Time control is 20 minutes with 30 seconds increment per move per player per round.

Entry fee is RM50 and event is open only to players who have a National Rating of 1500 (or National Juniors) and above. No entries shall be accepted after 20th April 2011. All payments are to be made to “First GM Chess Academy” Maybank Account No. 508289109255.
