UPDATE - Malaysia Chess Festival
For the ASTRO Rapid Team event, 2 more teams join the fray led by PETRONAS with IM Mas Hafizulhelmi at the helm, and ASTRO Ladies with Haslindah Ruslan as the 4th board player and manager. Wit that, 64 teams have confirmed their participation in the event, 2 shy from last year's figure of 66. The organizer is still hopeful that more State Teams will register in the next few days with several other local teams/clubs/players who are surprisingly missing from this year's gala.
For the ASTRO Rapid Individual, Wong Jianwen is the latest addition to the list which now has 56 players playing. A few grandmasters who will be participating in the 7th IGB Dato' Arthur Tan Malaysia Open may be interested to play especially those who are here early and see the event as a warm up exercise prior to competing in the main event.
For the AmBank Chess Challenge, 32 players have confirmed their entries, 12 short of last year's figure of 45 players.
At the last count, this year's 7th IGB Dato' Arthur Tan Malaysia Open has already attracted 121 players, 21 more than last year's century mark.
With the extension for the closing date has now gone into its second week, the organizer will continue to allow players and teams to register at the normal rate until tomorrow, Friday 20th August 2010. As of Saturday, 21st August 2010, a penalty of 25% shall be imposed for all late registration of all the major events (except for the National Age Group and Blitz as these have different closing dates), and for those who register for the events once the event starts on Friday, 28th August 2010, the registration fees shall be double the usual rate. So folks, tomorrow is the last day to register without having to pay any additional penalty fees .....
For the Blitz events - one to be held after the Merdeka Team event and the other one after the Arthur Tan Open, registration will be open from Saturday, 28th August (the first day of the festival). Be on the alert for more info on these exciting events!!!
