ASTRO Merdeka Individual Rapid Open Chess Championship
As of 18th August 2010, 55 players have registered for the ASTRO Merdeka Individual Rapid Chess Championship. To date, we have 49 Malaysian players playing in the event led by IM Mok Tze Meng who is seeded 3rd overall. Other notable Malaysian players that will be taking part in the event are father and son duo Yeoh Chin Seng and Yeoh Li Tian, Jax Tham Tick Hong, Kamaluddin Yusoff, NM Evan Timothy Capel and Sabahan Masrin Erowan.
The 6 foreigners playing in the event are DATCC Resident GM Ziaur Rahman who, at 2543, is currently seeded 1st for the event, followed by IM Kevin Goh of Singapore at 2428. 3 other Singaporeans playing in the event are Alvin Goh, Jimmy Ng and John Wong. The other foreigner playing in the event is no stranger to the Malaysian chess scene, Ian Udani from Philippines who calls Malaysia as his home away from home.
