Fourth GM Simul - 8 July 2010
So far, only Mohd Fairin Zakaria has managed to steal half point from GM Ziaur from 3 simul series. To date, the cumulative score is 14.5 - 0.5, and with that, one can only wonder if we have any "heroes" amongst our chess community that can beat the GM...
The fourth edition of the GM simul will see our players playing white instead whilst the GM will play as black - a slightly abnormal way to play simul (GM playing black in a simul is a rarity and quite unusual). And the time control for both the GM and the players have been set at equal with 60 minutes + 10 seconds per move.
Our valiant warriors for the fourth edition shall be Nik Farouqi (fresh from his outstanding performance during the National Championship), Razali Hamzah (the Knight in shining armor who seems to be focused on the g6 square), Nor Ilhamuddin (our space traveler), Saprin Sabri (the IT businessman) and Abdul Aziz (the banker).
It will be an interesting fight and with the GM playing the black pieces, the valiant 5 should be able to at least steal half point. My prediction 4 - 1 (I think someone can win and GM Ziaur will earn his first defeat).
