The GM has landed
After 2 delays, GM Ziaur finally touched down at KLIA at 1:45am earlier this morning. At the end of a rather anxious 45 minutes wait, he finally appeared out of the arrival gate, tagging a rather long red bag which contains, amongst others, chess books!
A short call to his wife informing that he has arrived, and off we go in the wee hours of the morning towards KL City Center where it will become GM Ziaur next home away from home for the next 10-12 months.
Looking at some of Ziaur's photo, one can't help but to think that he is a "serious" person - i guess most successful and serious chess players are like that - but quite to the contrary, he was chatty and looked very happy to be here.
After much communication with him via email prior to him arriving in KL, and further briefing between KLIA and KL, Ziaur understands the herculean task that he has in front of him - which is to help aspiring chess players in Malaysia to step up their playing level which inevitably boils down to the the hope of a nation to go where it has never been before.... to produce our very own GM, born and raised in Malaysia. Challenging and exciting tasks which he understands very well, and happy to accept and be a part of this interesting journey
As I was about to leave the hotel and bid him a good rest, he popped a question which was music to my ears - "So the class starts the day after?" - referring to Monday. I can't help but to appreciate his eagerness and overwhelming enthusiasm to start working... And with that, I know we have the right person, the right coach with the right attitude.... to perform and execute the task to completion, and to perfection!
Our first order of business today is to leave for Perak, participate in the Perak Open tomorrow, followed by a meeting with Dato' Tan on Monday - the founder of DATCC, with Hamid as the Program Director, myself as the Program Manager , and come Tuesday, our first class session starts. Mind you, the first two weeks of his stay here has already been fully booked! So.... you better hurry now!!! The ark is moving... DON'T MISS IT!
