Malaysian Masters – organiser’s point of view
A few important points of view from the perspective of the organisers' of the Malaysian Masters 2009 are as follows:-
1. To promote chess- make it a viable sports and attractive to be Malaysian champion;
2. A match of this nature, promotes top players and encourages them to play their best;
3. The selection on who will represents Malaysia, in a certain sense resolves the selection procedure;
4. Generates excitement and interest over a period of time;
5. Practically, all the events in Malaysia are on a Swiss-type format, hence this KO-type format is good for a change;
6. A mixture of young talented players who have the opportunity to play their best against the top players;
7. A chance to really prepare for the game, knowing who exactly the opponent is;
8. A flexible schedule so that all the best players are given the opportunity to play at the time best suited to them, knowing the fact that there are no professionals in Malaysia and all the players are busy with their work or studies;
9. More spectators can look forward to analysing the games, as few games are played at any one time; and,
10. Players will be more committed to the game.
